Crashing Off The Beat

If you've mastered most of the basic rock beats and fills, the next step is to add a little more life into your playing by learning to displace some of the more common techniques such as crashing on the first beat of a bar. Crashing off the beat can add a whole new dimension to a song and can be an essential tool in your drum lick arsenal.

To hear some examples of crashing off the beat have a listen to the following songs:

Metallica- Enter Sandman (0:54)
Evanescence- Call Me When You're Sober (1:24)
Position Absolute- Outside In (0:11) (http://www.myspace.com/positionabsolute)

Make sure that you master crashing off the beat on all parts of the beat/bar. This includes the e + a and don't forget that you crash on the 1,2,3 & 4.
